Thara’s Story: From Loss to a Loving Home
At just four years old, Avril Thara has already experienced tremendous loss and uncertainty.

Thara grew up without knowing her father and was raised by her mother, who faced incredibly difficult circumstances while trying to provide for her children. During a later pregnancy, her mother suffered serious complications and tragically passed away on March 1, 2025.
​
After her mother’s death, Thara went to live with her maternal grandmother. Though her grandmother did everything she could to care for her, she was over 60 years old, struggling with poor eyesight, and unable to provide the long-term care a young child needed.

Recognizing Thara’s vulnerable situation, Haiti ARISE stepped in.
​
On June 26, 2026, Thara was welcomed into the Children’s Village and became part of Desgazon’s family. Here, she has a safe home, loving caregivers, an education, and the stability of a family to surround her as she grows.
​
Thara’s young life has been marked by loss, but her story does not end there. Today, she is known, loved, protected, and surrounded by family—with hope for a brighter future.
